Ok so I’m seriously ocd about this journaling thing…I’ll be obssessed about it one week and not so much the next….wa wa wa….I’ve been MIA….
Not a whole lot to really catch ya’ll up on…the rain and cold weather finally broke down here as I’m sure it did in Ohio as well…so the weekend was spent outdoors mostly….husband worked on Saturday…so I spent a leisurely day of laying out in the sun for a bit….I also put a roast in the crock pot and that’s what we had for supper…yum! I avoided cleaning house by becoming engrossed in a book…I’m still reading Jane Eyre…it’s very good…when husband came home he decided to take a nap…so I went out on the porch (I’d gotten a little sun burnt so I was avoiding sunny areas lol) and curled up with my book on the lounge chair and after reading a bit…I was sound asleep….husband came out and woke me up yelling “And their off…” nothing like being startled awake…lol…but he woke me up in time for us to get settled in front of the TV to watch the Preakness…(the second horse race in the “Triple Crown” for the non-equestrian people)
So ok the winner of the Kentucky Derby this year, Barbaro…won by a huge margin…and was the first horse in a few years who had a really good shot at becoming the Triple Crown winner (The KY Derby, The Preakness Stakes, and The Belmont). The last time a horse won the Triple Crown was in the 1960’s or 1970’s…a rare feat…did anyone else watch this on Saturday? It was heart wrenching…for those of you that didn’t watch…Barbaro first broke through the gate early…which was a really bad sign…so after they got him corralled again…the race went off…less than 100 yards into it….he had a bad step and, as we now know, broke his ankle in several different places…a life threatening injury for a horse…the footage that followed was just so sad to watch….the jockey got Barbaro, who was so excited to be running, stopped and they led him over to one side of the track and the poor horse just kept raising that hind leg…it was just so sad to watch this majestic animal in so much obvious pain….
I’m not what you would consider, this tee-totaller animal lover…but it does hurt my heart to see an animal in pain…and bless his heart he was in pain…and the worst part is, he was so pumped up with energy and excitement…it was obvious he wanted to race so badly!
Well they did surgery on Barbaro on Sunday and there is a 50-50 chance of him making it…
I really feel sorry for the winner too…because after the accident, most everyone was focused on what was happening with Barbaro….
Alright enough about that….it was just very sad to watch….
Umm so then let’s see…church on Sunday was good…I remembered on Friday that we had children’s church on Sunday and I thought ok so on Saturday I’ll get my lesson together…well…I didn’t write myself a note and so of course I did not remember on Saturday…so Sunday morning while I’m getting ready for church I remembered again…lol grrr….so after Sunday school I grabbed one of the many lesson books we have around church and picked out two lessons that I liked…so at Children’s Church, I gave the kids a choice and we had a really good lesson…so sometimes, being unprepared is a blessing! I hadn’t over thought the whole thing and I think that helped the discussion to go well…so Praise God!!
After church, husband and I went and bought some green bean seeds and then we went home had some lunch on the porch and went and planted the green bean seeds…oh yeah on Saturday, that is one thing I did…I had gotten some flower seeds, some Zinnia seeds and Corn flower seeds…so I planted those all over my flower bed….
But anyway…so Sunday we planted beans…the dirt was ok but husband likes to plan on his farm machinery so he road around on his little tractor with the dirt-breaker-upper-attachment (I can’t think of what those are called…oh yeah rotor tiller!) so he made a spot at the good end of the garden to plant the beans…we ended up with three rows there and then we still had seeds left so we made another row over on the other side near the squash….I think we’ve planted the rows way too close together….but we’ll see…our tomato plants have not loved the cold rainy weather and I think rabbits have been eating the leaves, because they aren’t doing well…but we do have little corn plants popping up and onions too…we will also definitely have squash in a few weeks! I love summer squash! Yummmmm
So sister and I are planning a 40th anniversary party for our parents on June 17! So that’s the newest project! I’m excited about it! Our family always likes a good reason to have a party too! Lol…we’re planning on doing a “Newlywed game” type thing for entertainment…I told husband…it’s been a while since we had a family skit, so I think we need a skit maybe too…but the Newlywed game thing might turn out to be really funny…
Ok so last night at church, we had one of those Methodist Men’s group things (they always invite the women to come too) I’ve talked about it before because they always try to have interesting and informative topics…last night the speaker was a State Trooper and the topic was How to identify a meth lab/meth user….I’m telling you what…Knowing first of all, what goes into making meth, and second of all, the effects that it has on your body, I cannot comprehend why people would put that stuff in their bodies voluntarily.
First of all, to make meth, there are several highly caustic ingredients such as acid, and some sort of farm fertilizer that is explosive and well ya know acid burns your skin right off…those are ingredients used to “cook” the meth…and then second of all…at one point he was talking about the methods of ingesting meth…and he said that most users don’t like what it does to their veins so they don’t shoot it up and they don’t like what it does to their nasal passages so they don’t snort it (but both methods are used – as well as just eating it)…so the method of choice is usually to smoke it on a piece of aluminum foil using a straw…well dang!!!! Wouldn’t common sense tell ya that if it does bad things to your veins and nasal passage ya better not put it in your freaking lungs!!!!
Anyway…it was interesting and rather frightening to know that this stuff is so readily available and could be happening anywhere…you Ohio people are lucky because in 2002 there were 98 or so active meth labs…in KY there 200+ or so…but in Missouri (I don’t really know why Missouri was so high – no pun intended) there were like 1288 active meth labs…and those are the known ones….they said now though, with the regulation of sudephrine (in KY we have to show an ID to buy products like Sudafed) the number of meth labs is way down….but that just means that production has gone back to Mexico and they are making and smuggling in a purer form of meth (crystal ice or crystal meth)…
Anyway…scary but interesting stuff man….having been one who honestly never entertained the thought, or really had access to illegal drugs…I can’t fathom why someone would do that…but people do and it’s very sad the state that, especially meth, leaves people in….they showed some before and after pictures of a “meth makeover” and in five years this one lady had gone from being this vibrant 25 year old to looking like a haggard 70 year old skeleton of a person….really really sad….it just makes my heart hurt for people that turn to meth for whatever reason…because it robs people of everything good and decent about them and all they can think about is getting that next fix….the trooper explained that the biggest problem with meth is that once a person experiences that first high…they are ever in search for the same feeling but really the first high is as high as it gets so they are always searching but never satisfied…what a sad existence…doesn’t that just make your heart hurt for people?
Well…I had better get some work done…let’s all say a prayer today first of thanks that “there by the Grace of God” go I….and second for those that are caught in this trap of a lifestyle….it really brings home the whole picture in the Bible about how there is one among us who’s soul purpose is to seek and devour us…in one moment of weakness the lion could pounce and ever destroy God’s creation. God loves us and wants to protect us if only we’d just follow His guidelines and the path that He has set forth for us….
Ok sorry so heavy but my heart is heavy today….
Anyways Have a Happy Day!!

I was getting worried about you! I was about to call Mac-N-Cheese to make sure you were still alive and kickin! I completely sympathize with you on the whole watching the horse get hurt thing. I'll cry watching an animal get hurt, but I can see a human get shot on TV and it's no big deal....well, it is, but you get my drift...
I'm jealous of your flower garden and your vegetable garden. I need to do that....Hope you have a good day and stay away from the Meth labs! :)
A journal about meth labs and horse races.....should I claim to know you at all!?!?! LOL! I was laughing first of all, because I look at how long entries are to see if I have time to read when I do. I looked this afternoon and saw how long it was and decided that I would have more time tonight....and then one of the first things you wrote was how you didn't have much to say. You crack me up girl!
Hope our tomatoes come up well! You know, the $1 kit we bought at Target....isn't that going to bring us about 10 rows?!??!
Hope you have a wonderful day tomorrow....are you OCD about DOING your journal for the rest of the week!?!? LOL!
Lots of Love!
Glad the meth lab thingy was interesting....and I agree....it is very, very sad that people allow themselves to get caught up in that trap. But Satan works really, really hard against us...and knows our weaknesses!
I heard about Barbaro (Hubby told me) but I didn't see it. I probably would've cried because I cry at everything these days!!!!
Love ya!!!
