I found the book!! With our house in it I mean…it was at the library (it wasn’t there a few years ago when I looked for it but they have it now!! And also, I found a book site called Alibris.com and was able to order a copy so we’ll have our own copy soon!!!)…
Well I guess I should actually start with the karaoke party Friday night…let me just say, for those of you that have done the Playstation karaoke with me (brain twin and sis) that’s like karaoke on training wheels…cuz real karaoke is hard!! Lol…and it’d been soooo long since I had done real karaoke! So anyway that was tons of fun…I made new friends and the house we got together at was absolutely gorgeous…it was a Spanish style home very open and comfortable floor plan with lots of French doors to the outside and also to the screened in back porch….and off the porch/patio was a pool that looked like a pond…with the rock walls and the water falls…it was simply beautiful and if I ever hit the lottery that’s what my house will look like!! Lol
Anyways so Saturday morning we slept in a little bit because we were both out late on Friday (husband went to a tractor pull on Friday). So we got up, husband made us breakfast (ain’t he sweet!) and then we headed to the library to look at this book that has our house in it…we know that the people lived in our house for several years before they moved in 1898 so we need to do a deed search to figure out exactly how old our house is…the Civil War was mentioned a lot in the book…but I don’t know if our house dates all that far back…like I say, this is sort of a start up to our search but anyway…so we sat down at a table with the book and we were both just so excited! I almost cried (dork!) when I saw the old picture of our home and the author, who was a little girl when she lived there, just went into detail about how they had each room arranged and she ended the chapter, oh I wish I had a copy in front of me of what she said, I’ll have to type the quote for ya’ll later, but to paraphrase what she said: she just said how thankful and blessed she felt to have had the privilege of living on “the farm at Turners”. Very cool! Now, they may not have been famous people that lived in our home, but it is just so exciting to me to find out the history of old things, ya know?
So anyway…we had the librarian make a copy of the section about our home and of course we were so excited that we had to tell her all about it to.
So then after that we went to the hardware store and bought a canning pressure cooker. I had bought a pressure cooker at Walmart on Friday but when I got it home, I called my mother and I realized that it was not a canning pressure cooker…apparently there is a difference. I had never canned so I was so clueless…so anyway after we bought the canner we went to the Harvest Festival and checked out the sites to be seen there…and I must say that we had a great time…there really wasn’t a whole lot to see, but we stopped and talked with a lot of people that we know…and it just felt really good to see so many people that we know…it makes me feel like we are really starting to fit in here and it just gave me a good homey and community feeling…
Umm let’s see…Saturday was a very busy day! Lol…so then we went to Walmart and took back my non-canning pressure cooker…and on the way home we stopped at an auction. They were selling lots of junk and cheap to man…I tell ya what, if I was in the silk flower arranging business I woulda hit the gold mine! Lol…I bought an old fashioned floor lamp. There was a lot of furniture but they were selling all the small junk first…so anyway…we left there after a little while because it was hot and people were smoking and we were famished…
I have to say this too because I think it is just neato…so I know I’ve said before that we have an Amish community…so at the Harvest Showcase we saw Amish and some that husband knew from them helping with our roof, so we stopped and talked to Amish there and then there were more at the auction and husband knew them too…lol…so I’m a nerd but I think it is neat to have them around and so casual with us…nerd huh lol….
Umm so that was Saturday…no wait…the most important part….I canned beans!! Lol…14 quarts of them! I made like 5 calls to my mother but I did it! She offered to come over but I was determined to figure it out because I had a great instruction book…so I feel now I am officially and adult…or at least a hillbilly because I’ve canned!! Lol
Sunday we went to church (really good Sunday school class discussion!) and then we ran to LA to have lunch with mom and on the way home we stopped by the auction again…I figured as cheap as things were going for on Saturday, we may be able to get some cheap antique furniture…well I guess the sellers whined about how cheap everything was going on Saturday because on Sunday when the auctioneer would put something up for bid and the final price came in, he’d look to the sellers to make sure they wanted to let it go for that price. So I almost had a really nice antique dresser for $10.00 but the sellers refused…after that they refused several more items from other people…so we saw the way that was going so we left…it was really hot too…and I think someone was smoking non-filtered cigarettes…yuck!! The air was really pungent in there…but there were some really neat things for sale so I was bummed to be leaving…but it was a good day for Sunday nap too…
So anyway…now you are caught up on my weekend…ain’t ya glad? Lol
I better get some lunch…I’m hungry!! “talk” to you all later…I have some serious journal reading to catch up on too!

Adult, no. Hillbilly, yes! LOL!
What a weekend. Does "having to be on the go" a trait in your family? LOL! Wish you could have gotten that dresser. We went to an auction a few years ago and I loved it!!! I love finding cool stuff. I've got some old fashion hats and gloves and jewelry!
Praying for your hubby's work. So sorry this happened!
Lots of Love!
So sorry to hear about Buford's boss...how very sad and tragic! And selfishly..praying for the company. But more for his family. WOW - that puts things into perspective, doesn't it?
Yeah...I called Mom on whatever day it was that you were canning and she thought it was you because you had just called her a bunch of times. Very proud of you Sister!!!! Are you gonna share any of the wealth?!? Now that Mom and Dad can't give me my green bean fix!!!! I still have some that they gave us, but I wouldn't have to hoard them if I knew more was on the way! :)
Thanks for the update and love ya!!!
Sounds like you had a great weekend. Your community sounds so homey!
I'm sorry about your husband's boss too. That's just awful! I feel so bad for his wife and daughter...I'll be praying for them!
