Well, hello…I’m an occasional journaler in October that’s for sure…I told ya’ll October was a busy month man oh man!
So I’m not sure where I left off but umm so last Friday night (oh no this is a whole week’s recap? Lol I promise to make it as brief as possible) last Friday night was the monthly meeting of the “Red Bandana Babes” dinner and karaoke gathering…one of the ladies a few months ago brought red bandanas for everyone and dubbed us the “Red Bandana Babes”….dinner was delicious, the company was fabulous, and the karaoking was so much fun…we even talked of exchanging names for Christmas!
Anyway so that was a lot of fun…then Saturday morning we got up early and headed to Ohio to meet my new beautiful and strangely familiar niece….I’m telling you when I saw her it was like I know you….I’ve met you before! She is such a little precious sweetie baby….I just held her and stared at her and when I wasn’t holding her I was snapping pictures of her and missing holding her! Ya really do forget how fragile they are when they are so new though…husband was afraid to hold her…he says give em to me when they are 2! Lol…
So then mom and dad showed up with FAB and I-man and I just hugged and kissed them both a lot….FAB seemed to be Ya-ya’s girl, which didn’t bother me a bit! I just really enjoyed visiting with sister and her angels…poor sister though….it was obvious that she was fading fast and I felt just awful leaving her but it was definitely best that we left so she could get some rest….it just seemed to happen so abruptly…mom noticed sister was fading so she corralled us all out of the house…so we followed mom, dad and the kids over to their house to collect my bags (we had planned on spending the night because on Sunday there was supposed to be a concert “Dayton has talent” that my uncle and “aunt” were singing in…only that turned out to be a scam so we decided to head home.)
So on the way over to mom and dad’s I told husband what we should do is call his family and see what haunted house they were planning on going to that night…a few years ago in our old home town there was a haunted school bus ride (the tops are cut off so it’s like a convertible school bus). It has long been one of my absolute favorite haunted things number one because you ride through it so it’s not nearly as scary as a walk-through and number two the actual ride is roller coaster scary because the bus driver is “wreckless” and combines and semi-trucks chase the bus and even push the bus up and down hills, so it feels like a dangerous ride…
So anyways….we wanted to find out where that was now. So husband called his cousins and they were actually planning to go to that one that night…so we decided to meet them there…we were hungry for some dinner…so we first drove by the new Mongolian BBQ in that new mall by sister’s house….it was packed to overflowing so we decided to just head to our old home town and find somewhere to eat there…so we were driving around going through our choices when husband remembered the most excellent hamburger joint for miles around Rod’s Capricorn Inn…it’s out by Cowan Lake and I highly recommend it if you are ever down that way…its just this little dive of a place but the Rod Burger is beyond comparison…and so we went there and some things in this world just are always the same…it’s still a tiny dive of a place and Rod is still there cooking his burgers and singing badly along with the radio….he did stop singing long enough to check out the NASCAR race on the tv….but then back to singing the country music and making burgers!
So after dinner we went to the Haunted Hollow…excellent as always…and then it was homeward…we got home late…
But we did get up and go to church on Sunday…although it was really really hard to wake up! Sunday school…really good discussion about envy…worship service was pretty good…Preacher P’s brother preached. We had a dinner after church and we happened to end up sitting with an older lady and her son and the older lady was bad mouthing one of our friends in the church…so that was fairly uncomfortable and unpleasant…argh!
Umm the rest of Sunday was fairly uneventful…Monday evening we went to a Historical Society dinner and we officially joined…so we are now Historical Society members…oh this is funny…after the wonderful catered meal at which tea and coffee were served in abundance, there was a speaker…and toward the end of his talk (which was very interesting about the Low Dutch Colonists and Shakers that settled in this region but I won’t bore you with the details!) anyway we’d been sitting there listening to him talk around an hour and I was looking around and noticing that husband and I were obviously among the youngest people there (there were probably around 55 - 60 people there and the only people younger were teenagers whose parents had dragged them there)…and I also, after drinking so much tea and coffee, kinda had to go to the bathroom but I knew I could wait til we got home. But then a thought struck me that I hadn’t really seen anyone get up to go to the bathroom (my mind thinks of weird things) so I was commenting on this to husband on the way home….how we were the youngest people there and how none of those old people got up to go to the bathroom through the guys whole talk and husband said…well, they were probably all wearing Depends…now that was funny I don’t care who you are….lol….I laughed about that all the way home….
Umm…the rest of the week has been fairly uneventful. Although we are getting the house ready for company because this weekend some of husband’s cousins are coming down to go haunted housing….there’s apparently this website that rates haunted houses in the Ohio/Kentucky area and the top 4 are in Louisville…so we are going to go check out a few…. Dad even got me a free ticket to the one at Waverly Hills Sanitorium…he happens to work with the guy that owns the actual building complex…the Sanitorium was a tuberculosis hospital as well as a psychiatric ward many many years ago. It has been featured on the Sci-Fi and Travel channels as one of the top 10 truly haunted places in the world. So…hope we come out alive!! lol
I’ll leave you with a picture of the painting that husband gave me for our anniversary present…I just got it back from the framers today and I’m really happy with how it turned out…. (sorry....apparently I do not know how to insert the image because for some reason it isn't shoing up...grr!! I'll try again later at home)
I still have some major catching up to do on my journal reading…I’ve been very neglectful of my journal family here lately…but you all are in my thoughts and prayers!!
Happy Fall!

I went to a haunted house when I was in high school and I hypervinilated, so I've never been back! LOL! Hope you have fun!
"Dayton Has Talent"? I wonder what that scam was about? Glad you didn't get scammed money wise with that one!
I can't wait to see this picture. Sorry that blogger isn't doing pictures right now. I can't get mine to work either....seems to be something wrong with site.
Lots of Love (and glad you're back)
You know, I used to love haunted houses, but I'm so chicken these days! We used to go on a haunted hayride when I was in high school and towards the end some "Jason" like guy would run out with a chainsaw and jump on the side of the truck. Scared the pee out of me!!! I could probably handle the bus one that you went on...I don't know about the asylum one. Yikes!
Your "women's group" sounds fun. I've never karaoked. I doubt I would unless I'd hit the bottle a few times. ha ha. :) Hope you have a good weekend and have fun haunted housing!
Oh! Memories! I would love a Rod's Burger about now! So cool that it is still there and still the same! Talk about memories!!!
Sorry the picture won't post! Try again because I want everyone to see it!
Love you!!!!
