Hola

Oh man…it’s been a long time since I actually posted. I keep having these moments of, as the tv show put it, “This is so going in my blog”! lol but then I get busy or whatever and neglect to find the time to actually blog….so this will be a rather sporadic and rambling entry because I’m just going to journal whatever I remember lol

Last Tuesday I went to the eye doctor. I only go to the eye doctor when my contact lense supply is low…lol…so anyway I had like maybe one or two pairs left so it was time to go…I was totally dreading the whole pupil dilation part that comes at the end of a visit (which I ended up not having to have done because I gotta go back so they can see how my new contacts are suiting me. I’ll tell you about that in a sec). But anyway, so I decided that this time when the doc asked if I wanted to try contact lenses that are made to also correct astigmatism, I was going to be open minded and say yes. I usually tell them that I’ll just stick to what I know…so I got to the eye doctors and you know how all doctor’s offices randomly make you fill out surveys, well I had one of those and one of the questions was how long had I wore contacts…umm let’s see I started wearing contacts when I was like 13 or 14 so (calculating in my head) 20+ years I’ve been wearing contacts…is that right?? Am I THAT OLD???? Lol geez oh petes…getting old doesn’t bother me per se, well yes it does, but like I don’t walk around every day thinking “whoa I’m old” it’s just every once in a while I get reminded that I’m not young anymore! Lol Which relatively I’m still young but not as young as I think I am…I’m sure that you all can relate…it’s funny how we all sort of get mentally stuck thinking we’re like 23 for the rest of our lives…lol…told you this was going to be a rambling post…

Anyways so I got contacts that also correct my astigmatism…it’s biology class time boys and girls…an astigmatism is this. Normal eye balls are shaped like a baseball – round. Astigmatism (and I hope I’m spelling that right!) eye balls are more the shape of a football. So the doc explained to me that say for example your eye glasses can be shaped such that it compensates for the astigmatism but a regular contact lens floats around so they were basically making it a certain strength so that I could see correctly but with contacts my vision wasn’t as good as with glasses. Astigmatism contacts are weighted to stay in one position. They even have these little lines on them so that you can know how to correctly insert them into your eye. But if you don’t get it in exactly right, it will float to the correct position…all this and you can see clear as a bell! Amazing!

Most everyone in my extended family wears glasses or contacts…bad eyes run in our family…I was telling one of the nurses that was running all those funky tests on me…ya know the poof of air test (what is that for??!) and the if you see a blinking light hit this button test…anyway I was telling her because she had me take out my contacts so I was “blind” I was telling her, every time I come to the eye doctor I’m just so amazed and thankful for all the technology we have now because I’m sure like for example in “Little House on the Prairie Days” and even before that we would be the blind people…

Anyways, getting used to the new contacts was a little difficult…it almost felt like someone was tickling my eyes…but now it’s great! I’m sure you all wanted such a detailed accounting of my trip to the eye doctor too…lol

So umm oh poor husband he was sick most of last week…he had a really bad cold and a touch of a tummy virus…but Friday we went a field trip for my work! Judge has this land dispute case. It’s over a hundred acres in the country in the county where husband and I live. It’s very hilly and not really easily accessed and it’s just been inherited and one of the access roads that people have used for years is owned by someone else…and so it’s really a dispute about being able to access this land…anyways this path that has been used reportedly for at least 40 years or so, the current owners have turned into cow pasture and it is just this mucky yucky mess. So to prove a point, when we went to see the property, we all had to glosh through this “manuck” (the guy leading the tour called it that cuz it’s a mixture of manure and mud and yuck!) so we gloshed through that and then we basically went hill climbing…I’m sooo out of shape! Lol the end of the hike was straight up hill…and we sort of fell like flies all the way up it…til only like three people made it to the top…

But it was really a nice way to spend an afternoon…it was chilly but very sunny so it was really refreshing…plus once you got out of the cow pasture part of the property, it was really pretty…

Friday night after our hike, husband and I were both too tired to do much…lol…so I made chili and we watched The Notebook. Husband got me that dvd for Christmas….that movie is such a sobfest man….geeze…I started crying about maybe a half hour into the movie and on and off through it….and I’d look over at husband and tell him that the movie was awful…It’s really a good movie but very much tear jerker…

So umm Saturday was pretty uneventful…Sunday was an ice storm for us so we didn’t make it to church. And our power went out from 11:30 a to about 4:30 p…husband hooked up our wood pellet stove (which is our main heat source) and fridge to a generator and he and I played SkipBo…then later, he wanted to watch football so he plugged the tv and satellite into the generator too…he said that the generator would only allow sports channels…lol…so I snuggled in with a book and read most of the afternoon.

I don’t really watch football but I did happen to catch the end of the Colt’s game…what an exciting game that was! I was happy to see the Colt’s win…I thought of Daisy and BB…I’m sure BB and his family are just beside themselves with excitement! Lol

Umm…so my boss is flying right now to Chile…she is going to go hiking with her sister in Chile for a month…so work will be sort of very laid back for the next few weeks…

Today I had lunch with my dad. He called and asked if I wanted to go to lunch and so we went to lunch…that was really nice! I just can’t believe that my dad is retirement age…this is just going to be such a huge transition for him…it’s exciting but I don’t like to think of my parents as aging…you know? Oh man…

So did anyone watch the State of the Union speech last night? I halfway listened…I just can’t stand all the clapping…I know it definitely serves a purpose but I’d rather the president just be able to talk and say his speech ya know?! Lol

So if you’ve read my journal very long at all, you know that I’m a proud republican…except I don’t really like the whole hard line separation where one side thinks they are the side of good and the other is the side of evil so to speak…but anyways, proud republican I am, I couldn’t help but be proud for Nancy Pelosi and the unbelievable historical moment we got to witness last night! I just had this realization last night that we were watching history be made and how cool!! And then I was thinking things like, if I were her and had to sit behind the president while he made his speech…I mean you can’t get up to go to the bathroom or blow your nose or anything because I mean you are right there…lol…I’m a nerd…

Anyways…I guess I should probably get some work done…I have been a journal lurker these days…I tried to leave a comment on sister’s journal one time but the journal site ate it and I was too lazy to retype it lol….but I have been reading all your journals and keeping up with the goings on that is….Happy Wednesday!

Lots of love and hugs….

I was about to email you to see if you were still alive! :) Glad you decided to update.

Your "Proud Republican" blinkie tipped me off, among other things! :) I'm also a proud republican too, though. I have to say that I missed it last night. I'll catch the highlights on CNN or Fox News anyway.

So, you're footloose and fancy free the next few weeks, huh? No boss...how will you ever survive? :)

It's funny b/c everyone in my family but me have an astigmatism. I'm the only one who's been able to wear contacts. Weird, huh?

I used to think that it was called a stigmatism. I didn't know till WELL after I had glasses that it was one word. LOL! I have it too. I could never get comfortable in contacts because of it, so I just stuck with glasses.

Nice to see that you are alive and kickin'. I was worried about you, but you seem to have kept pretty busy. Now that you have a few weeks of no boss....we expect more! Just kiddin'!

Have a wonderful Thursday!
Lots of Love!

I have an astigmatism, too, and mine's so bad that they wouldn't even think of giving me "normal" contacts, I had to have the contacts with the "weights" in them...They used to be WAY more expensive than they are now!! It's such a blessing that they're about the same price as "normal" ones...

Anyways, yes, we watched the "Address" the other night, and I semi-listened, even!! LOL I was trying to clean the kitchen, though, so I got distracted.

Well, better go...Talk to ya later!! :)
