Happy Wednesday!

Well…it’s been a while since my last entry…I’m sooo happy that Spring is back on! Lol Husband and I played outside almost all weekend this past weekend!

Friday night we met mom and dad at Belterra Casino for dinner (the buffet) and then after dinner, we went and played penny slots. I had $10 and I gave husband $10. And right before we left I won $200.00!!! wahooo!! I was so excited. It was funny because the machine was hard to figure out and so earlier I had won like $9.00 and it took me forever to realize that I was up to like $14.00 when I’d only put like $3 in the machine. So when it said that I’d won 20,000 units…I was like – no that can’t mean – can it? Did I just win $200…my mom said no – you won $20.00…well I hit the cash out button quick man…and sure enough….$200.00…lol…my mom, the big mouth, hollered like I’d won a million…but it was very very exciting! I floated to the cash out window!

Earlier in the week husband noticed that the weather forecast was good for Saturday, so we decided to have a yard sale – which is great for getting junk cleared outta the house. Well, Saturday was also Thunder over Louisville – the country’s largest fireworks display and one of the top air shows around – if you’ve never been, I highly recommend seeing it….but the best time to go would be when the weather isn’t great because then it won’t be nearly as crowded. There was another record crowd – well actually I think they said if one more person had came, there’d be a record crowd. But ya know, it’s a free event and they are only guestimating by how many people can cram into a square foot – so they don’t really know the exact number…but it was close to a million again….anyways…so when they start showing the commercials for it every year I just get this longing and itching to go the Thunder. Jimmie said, after last year’s experience (which was not pleasant) there was absolutely no way that he was gonna go this year…he did offer to up my life insurance policy if I wanted to go – nice guy huh! Lol…anyways, so also last year, the night before Thunder (again for you Thunder-less people – they shoot the fireworks off of two barges. We live up the river from Louisville) we suspect that one or both of the barges, as it’s making its way down the river, practices some of the fireworks. Last year, the night before Thunder, around midnight, we watched fireworks in the distance – somewhere on the river – for about 45 minutes from our front porch. So it was our goal this year to go driving to find out where they do that.

So after we left the casino, we made a Walmart stop and then we went home to start setting up for our yard sale the next day. Well so we were out in our front yard at around 9:00 when just over the furthest hill toward the river, I saw fireworks!! So we stood there for a little bit watching. We finally decided we’d take off driving to try and find where they were shooting them off. When we finally reached the river, we drove and drove and drove and never found the barge on the river. We did at one point catch a glimpse of fireworks and bright sky so we knew we were close…but we just didn’t find them this year….there’s always next year!! The problem is, if they don’t do it at the same time each year…it is going to be ambiguous….but we are on a mission!!

They did actually broadcast the air show and the fireworks in HDTV this year….and it was the next best thing to being there…actually, as far as the fireworks goes, of course it wasn’t perfection but when you factor in the crowd and traffic jam afterward, then it was absolutely better this year to watch on HDTV rather than trek down to the waterfront.

Anyways, so Saturday we spent the entire day outside on the front porch having a yard sale….it was a gorgeous day to just lounge on the porch. We have two hammocks and so we decided to try and sell one, so husband set that up and then eventually crawled in the hammock and took a nap…if you’ve ever had a yard sale, then you know how it lags in the afternoon…husband was napping in the hammock and I was napping in a lounge chair on the porch…oh man was that peaceful!

I think I mentioned it…but we only made around $100 or so in the yard sale but it was totally worth getting rid of some stuff. Ok I had actual yard sale prices (cheap) on my stuff and husband kept telling me I was selling stuff too cheap….but I kept telling him that I had perfect yard sale prices on stuff. Well this mother and daughter stopped and bought like $30.00 worth of junk and I told them how husband told me I was selling stuff too cheap and they said no you have awesome prices! So I told husband…he still insisted I was selling stuff too cheap…lol…I hate when you go to a yard sale and they’re all proud of their junk though! I also hate when you go to a yard sale and there isn’t a price on stuff. Husband didn’t put prices on most of his junk (tools and stuff). But he is really such a people person – he struck up conversations with everyone who stopped by.

Anyway…Sunday, I forgot to mention that on Friday we had a message from our Sunday School teacher asking if Jimmie and I would teach Sunday School because he was going to be out of town. We’re in the middle of studying Dr. Stanley’s 30 Life Principles and the lessons have really been teaching themselves, so I had Jimmie call him back to tell him that we’d do that. So Friday night after we got home from chasing fireworks, I printed out the lesson we’re on – Lesson 10 – and upon initial reading, I thought, man this lesson isn’t an obvious one…but Saturday during the yard sale lulls, I read the lesson and the very many scripture references that were in the lesson and it actually came together. One of the scriptures we were to read was Esther 6 – the whole chapter. So I read that, and it was like coming in at the end of a story. So I decided to read Esther chapters 1 through 6. It’s actually a really good story about how Esther, a Jew, became a Persian queen and her cousin/adopted father Mordecai etc. Anyway, the lesson was about the many ways God speaks to us. And in Chapter 6, the first verse is about how the King can’t sleep because of some of the choices he’s made. This scripture was to demonstrate how God makes us restless. What also struck me, in several of the other scriptures we read in this lesson, was also, how God spoke to believers and unbelievers alike. Obviously the unbelievers didn’t recognize that it was God, but God spoke to them and worked through them all the same. I thought that it was really cool and important to see that. As Christians, I sometimes think that we think that we have the corner or the upper hand with God working on our side. But it’s important to be reminded that some of the great people from the Bible – like Samuel, Abraham, etc. – felt the call and tug from God, even before they knew about Him. It really is sort of an eye opening thing…God’s plan is so intricate and detailed and yet so mysterious to us.

Anyway…sorry to wax so philosophical there…lol…it was obviously a thinker lesson!

Umm…ok so after church on Sunday, husband and I came home and began brainstorming and moving rocks and bricks. We have a landscaping plan for the front side yard. So we worked all day outside. It was tiring but really fun!

Well…that was my weekend…the weekdays have really been boring so I won’t bore you with the details…work etc….this weekend I’m getting away with my cousins and sister to Women of Faith…I’m really looking forward to being spiritually fed this weekend!! I think God’s been already preparing my heart for whatever I’m going to hear this weekend…so I’m anticipating that! Plus it will be great to have some cousin bonding time! Ya’ll be praying that we get away on time Friday morning…except for Missy, none of us do well with being places on time and I think Missy is also the only morning person. So I guess really, you should extra prayers for Missy to have patience with us and that the rest of us are timely and cheerful about it!!

Have a blessed day!

Maybe we should pray for ya'll not to kill the morning person! lol! I'm sure you will have a ton of fun. That sounds like it's going to be such a bonding experience...family and Christian wise.

I love seeing fireworks! They are so beautiful. I bet they were gorgeous on HDTV though.....and no crowds...I'll have to agree with Jimmie on this one! LOL!

Glad you made some $$ on your yardsale....$100 for junk? That is awesome!

Lots of Love!

One of these years I'll have to go to Women of Faith. I've never been. Sounds like an awesome experience! Don't kill each other! :)

Yeah for your yard sale. How in the world did you pull that together in a day? I swear it would take me weeks to figure out what I needed to sell and get everything organized! We definitely need to have one ourselves soon! Our storage shed is literally filled from front to back. No joke! Neat about the fireworks!

Have fun at WofF!
