Started Tuesday May 29…..
Blahhhhh….did you all have a peaceful relaxing Memorial Day weekend? I didn’t….well actually I shouldn’t complain too much. I actually had a great weekend, it was just one of those weekends that seemed really long cuz we packed so much into it.
It started actually on Thursday evening. Actually, I should say that I cleaned a different room in my house every night last week in preparation for my parents and others visiting this weekend. And it really paid off, because of the things I had to do this weekend, cleaning wasn’t one of them – nice feeling! I must remember that feeling for the next time my house looks like a pit. Lol…anyways, so I regret to say that I was in an irritated mood on Wednesday night and chose not to watch much of the Idol Finale. The only part of which I regret is missing Cece. Man! But mostly every time I’d turn it over to Idol, I felt like I was tuning in to a bad telethon and then they had that Big Bird lady one time – we don’t need to see some of those clowns again….but I digress….we watched the Lost finale and I love that show but now in addition to doing flashbacks, they are doing flash forwards. I will continue to watch the show but either 1) I don’t do drugs so therefore I will never fully grasp the show because I feel quite certain that the writers may be tripping or 2) the show far exceeds my intellectual capacity. Whatever it is, there’s nothing else like it on tv…love it! And I’ll stop rambling about it…lol
Anyways so as I was going to say, my weekend sort of started on Thursday night when mom and dad came to town and we went to see Pirates of the Carribbean. Loved it! But I need to see it again! There was so much going on in that movie and it was long and we had a loud person sitting behind us who over reacted to everything – that is so distracting….but anyway it was pretty good. Although I felt sorry for dad, even though he was actually the one to suggest going to see it, just about ten minutes in I was thinking that this movie was gonna be too out in the left field for him! Lol Anyway, I won’t spoil it if someone hasn’t seen it yet. But the special effects were amazing. There was this one battle scene and the ocean was just swirling – it was really spectacular! When we left, mom and I both felt like we’d been on a boat and we still had our sea legs! They definitely left it open for another one even though they have said this was gonna be the last one. It is such a cash cow for them though, so I wouldn’t be surprised if there will be more.
Anyway, so mom and dad spent the night but left fairly early on Friday.
Wednesday May 29, 2007…..
So I had to go to the doctor yesterday so I had to abruptly end my journaling. I didn’t want to post it when I was only a little way into telling about my oh so exciting weekend….lol
Incidentally, I went to the doc to have my blood pressure checked and it is doing much better so they didn’t up my dosage of meds or anything so yay. I must say, I spent entirely too much time in there for the simple thing that I was in there for. They were apparently very busy. I have to say also, that I’m not sure that I’m loving my doctor right now. She’s the general doc not the obgyn and I actually think I like to see the general practitioner or whatever she’s considered. She’s much nicer. Granted I was generally healthy but when she came in to see me, it was really rushed and she couldn’t get out the door fast enough. How rude! Lol anyways…just needed to rant about that a little bit. She’s not always like that either so it was obviously something that was going on yesterday, but still…ok enough of that….
Umm so anyway to finish recapping my weekend, Saturday morning hubby had a men’s breakfast at church and I was sleeping in. At 9 am my peaceful sleep was interrupted by a phone call. How rude! Anyway, it was my mother-in-law saying they were going to be in our area and would we be home so they could visit us. I told her yes! We haven’t seen them in like 4 years! So yes! When I talked to her, she and hubby were going to be coming through on Sunday, which I didn’t tell her but we had plans to go to a family picnic at Jimmie’s cousins’ house. But we’ve seen them since we’ve seen m-i-l so we were going to forego that excursion. Well it turns out they were coming thru on Monday so we got to go to the picnic after all. See, mil recently obtained her CDL and so she and step-fil are driving a truck together. So I have a feeling that we may get a lot more of these type phone calls. Which is absolutely great, because that’s the way to visit with these in-laws! Small doses man. I’m telling you what – I told husband, after we’d dropped his mom and stepdad off at their truck, and also factoring in how strange his dad is, I sometimes just wonder how on earth he matriculated from those two individuals. It just makes he and I both that much more thankful for his Aunt Louise stepping up and raising him.
I’m totally skipping around my weekend recap but that’s ok lol…so I must say that it was a really nice feeling to not have to scramble around and clean the house because it was already clean! I said to myself, I really need to remember that feeling! Lol But so Saturday was a relaxing day for the most part. Jimmie actually went to a tractor pull and I just did things around the house. Sunday, we had Children’s Church and we made windsocks, so we got to color! That was so nice. We just colored and talked with the kids. One little girl named Clara told me I had a weird husband….lol…then we had a dinner after church and then we went home and I took a little nap and then we headed up to the picnic at Jimmie’s cousins’ house. We played volleyball until we could no longer see the ball! It was just a really nice visit.
So Monday was the day Jimmie’s mom was coming. We had no idea what time they’d be coming through. So around noon-ish Jimmie called them and they guessed it would be around 6:00. And they further told him this: If we’re going out to eat, you are buying, and if you are cooking for us, you are buying that too. Umm – who says that? Apparently they do. This is an example of what strange people they are. So anyway, we talked about it and we decided that we’d have a little cookout. So we headed out to gather up some groceries for a cookout. When we got back, we started getting a few things ready and before too long it was time to go get them. We met them at a truck stop so they didn’t have to try to bring the truck to our house back all those country roads. So we get there, they get in the truck and there is some small talk and then silence. Not that good kind of silence but that awkward kind of silence. And I’m really the only one that tried to keep the small talk going and I’m not really good at that…lol…so that was a little odd. When we got to our house, Jimmie went out to the grill and I stayed in the house getting the corn and beans ready and I didn’t know my mil was diabetic and not on medication and she may lose her CDL if she doesn’t pass a physical this week so she basically can’t eat anything with sugar be it straight sugar or natural sugar, so basically, everything I offer her to drink or eat, she can’t have. Uh huh. So I make her some decaf iced tea. And we are standing around the kitchen talking and we get on the topic of her youngest sons marriage. He just got married and they apparently paid for everything and are now broke because they paid for everything. And this is a sore subject, and I know it’s a sore subject because she was not a happy camper. This is weird. She was telling me how the girl he married, which by the way, she was 17 at the time and still in high school, her parents said they didn’t have the money to buy a wedding dress. So mil cleaned out her savings account and bought a $900.00 wedding dress for this little girl. Umm…do you think the parents maybe didn’t want the girl getting married and that’s why they didn’t buy the dress??? I don’t know, I’m just guessing. I didn’t say that to her but I did ask why she bought the dress? I mean, that’s not really their place. But she said that Kyle said she could have it. Kyle is in the military and wasn’t home at the time of the planning of the wedding but the little girl was living with mil and stepdad. So the whole situation sounded a little bizarre to me. So I changed the subject. Lol…
We sat down to dinner, umm what they could eat, and step fil admonished mil of what she could and couldn’t eat. I told Jimmie later if he ever did that to me, I’d pummel him. After dinner we went out and sat on the front porch for a little bit. Jimmie’s mom hit us up for money – awkward. It reminded me of how some of dad’s family is with him. Like, he has money and they are entitled to it just because they need it (only we don’t really have money but we do live comfortably – even if it is basically from paycheck to paycheck lol). The last time we gave them money, they bought parakeets. So there is no way in heck we’re giving them money. But it just didn’t sit well with me. Also, I know it bugged husband and that bugged me. Again, so thankful for Aunt Louise!
Thankfully (is that wrong? Lol) they were tired and rather than staying at our house in our guest rooms, they wanted to sleep in their truck (uh huh), so we took them back to it and said our goodbyes. Is it wrong that I’m thankful they don’t live closer? I mean, they are just strange. It makes me that much prouder of Jimmie for turning out as “normal” as he has! Or like Jimmie said when I told him I don’t know how he matriculated from those two people – he said, but it explains a lot too huh! Lol Bless his heart. I know every family has their quirks but his family definitely has more than its fair share! Plus, and I totally recognize this, its human nature to not have as much tolerance for in-laws. I mean they are strange people grafted into your family and some are definitely more strange than others.
Well enough of that….I know you all have in-laws so you all know EXACTLY what I’m talking about….
Anyways, I’m still exhausted from my weekend! But it has put me that much closer to the weekend after next when we go see LION KING!!! I told Jimmie last night, when mom and I went to see it, we sat there and it was over and we wanted more. I was ready to see it again right then!! I’m very much looking forward to a little girls night out too!
I think I’ve found someone to go to the Pirates movie with me again too! So yay! There’s a lady at work that wants to go see it again.
Man I’ve written a book and I need to get some work done….talk at you all later!

They bought parakeets? Are you kidding me?!?!?! What a weird visit...good thing you got to spend time with your parents to balance it out! lol!
Okay, so it was a strange weekend, but you had fun...and you didn't have to miss the cookout for the wonderful dinner that your MIL couldn't eat! lol!
Lots of Love!
Okay...so maybe you win on the weirdest in-laws...but mine are trying to catch up!!! LOL Sorry it was so strange...and glad it is so infrequent!!!
I am so excited about next weekend! I need to call Mandie to see what time she wants to head down to your house. And we will spend the night on Saturday, obviously.
Well, I gotta get back to work. Love ya!!!!
You're totally right about inlaws, but I think yours are definately "in the lead" on the weirdness scale...for now...lol
Jealous about the Lion King!! That sounds really awesome!! :)
Um, we're gonna have to schedule & actually meet in Florence sometime soon for a girl day...
Okay, better go...Love ya!!
Well, I'd also agree that your in-laws are weird, but everyone else has said it already.
Sounds like you had a good weekend and I'm jealous you got to go see Pirates 3! I really wanted to see it last Saturday, but Brian wanted to wait. Did you stay for the end of the credits? Someone told me there's more after the credits, so that I should stay when I go see it.
Yeah for normal BP! Glad things are going well with that. Have a good day!
