Lion King and other weekend ramblings....

Well we had so much fun on Saturday night. We also learned that we’re not as young as we think we are!

So Missy and Mandie got to our house an hour or so before we even had to start getting ready to go. So we had time to just chill around my house. The weather was so great on Saturday so we sat out on our front porch for a good while. Then it was time to get ready to go.

Oh this was funny…. I mean you all know I’m a nerd right? Lol So Friday night husband and I went out to eat and the restaurant we went to has a little gift shop connected to it and I always like to exit via the gift shop because they just have different oddities in there. Jimmie usually chats with the owner of the shop. Well she wasn’t there so he talked to the lady that was there for a little bit. I don’t think that boy has ever met a stranger. So, then he started looking around too and he called me over to see something. They had pasta salad mixes and the noodles were in the shape of college sport team letters. They had U of L, UK, and they also had Ohio State. So I jokingly told Jimmie that that would be a cute “guest room” present for Missy and Mandie. So we bought two of the Ohio State packages.

So Saturday morning before the girls got there, I wrapped up the presents and put them in a bowl upstairs and printed out a little note of welcome and to please enjoy a little gift to make them feel at “home”. Also, since our guestrooms are upstairs and the bathroom is downstairs, well this is something I put out when mom and dad stayed with us a few weeks ago. Just in case someone wants to wash their face or freshen up without trekking all the way down to the bathroom, I put a fresh pitcher of water, a bowl, and some towels and washcloths out upstairs. Now in my mind, if I were staying at someone’s house and they had that out, I would wonder if the water was fresh or not. So I put a little note by the pitcher explaining that it was fresh water and towels/washcloths for your comfort….lol…so I’m a nerd! Missy said she felt like she was in a bed and breakfast…(and I did serve breakfast so I guess she kind of was!)

Oh well anyway…so we all got ready to go out for the evening – we all looked fancy! And we all wore heels or dress shoes – not so smart! By the end of the night our feet were hurting so much that Missy and I literally walked around downtown Louisville barefoot! Missy did it first and I told her to be careful not to step on any glass and she said that would feel better than how her shoes felt! Lol…when we got home and I looked at the bottom of my feet, I was so disgusted at how dirty they were that I had to wash my feet before I went to bed. And then the water felt so good, I decided to go ahead and take a shower – but now I’m totally jumping around…

Anyway, so well now I have to tell you that portions of a highway that I usually take to the downtown area were closed. And at least I knew this well ahead of time, so I had Jimmie map out an alternate route. Now I actually know my way pretty much in that area too so the whole mapping it out was actually merely precautionary. I also had Jimmie tell Missy and Mandie the direction he was sending us just so they could help navigate if need be, but again, I pretty much knew where I was going. So we got to the first turn on Jimmie’s map and I said, eh I’m disregarding the map because I knew where I was going. Well the route I chose was also closed but they had detour signs, which I followed. We were behind a semi-truck and Missy thought that I was just blindly following the semi…lol…but we got where we needed to be…well sort of…

For some reason, when we pulled into the paring garage, I drove to the opposite end of where we needed to be, not realizing that I had done so. So when we got on the elevator, I fully expected that when the doors opened, we would be in the lobby of the Art Center. Well the doors opened and I had not a clue where we were. Luckily, we did recognize that just outside of where we were, was the Irish fest – which we had passed on the way to the parking garage, so we kind of knew where we were. But it was so not where I thought we’d be so I was thrown off….

So anyway once we got our bearings, we walked to 4th Street Live and had dinner at a place called The Pub. It was excellent. It was a place that none of us had ever been so that’s always nice to try something new. Our waiter at first seemed really bored to be there. But I think maybe he was shy or something because after a little while, and Missy and Mandie asking him lots of questions, etc. he seemed to get more friendly. We had him separate our bills and even then, a single bill was about what it cost for two people to eat! But it was well worth it…

So we walked back to the Center and found our way to our seats. On the walk back we decided that after the show we’d park closer to 4th Street – we were planning to go back there and go to Howl at the Moon.

Anyway, Lion King was AWESOME once again. I think they may have added a song or two since I’d seen it last and the kid that played young Simba wasn’t really that great. I don’t know if he had a cold or something but his voice just wasn’t up to par. But the show was still thoroughly enjoyable. The lady that played Rafiki had an amazing voice, as did the lady that played the part of the grown up Nala. The African music in the show was my most favorite part. I meant to buy the soundtrack but I forgot. I think I’ll order it online.

Anyway so after the show, we went down the stairs to the parking garage and I’m not sure why we thought that the stairs would take us to our car when the elevator by our car put us in such a different place. But we went down the stairs to the level that we thought we parked on and we parked in row K. Well this garage only had a row A, B, and C….umm…ok….so we decided to try to the elevator back up a level….we got out on that level…no row K there either…uh huh…so we tried to get back on the elevator but by this time it was all tied up. But low and behold the door to the stairwell on this level was locked! By this time there were several other people obviously looking for their cars and obviously in the wrong place too. So finally someone came through the stairwell door and we all lunged for the door! Lol….we finally made it back up to the street and we decided to walk to the door we had come out of when we got off the elevator. Thank goodness sister remembered where we were going else we’d still be looking for our car! Lol

So we got to the car, changed shoes! (or in Missy and my case, we put on different shoes because by this point we were both barefoot), and drove to Howl at the Moon. That was a blast!! It was like 11 o’clock when we got there, and like Missy said, she thought we were getting there late but I think the party was just getting started! So for a little while all we could do was stand because there weren’t any tables available but I finally spotted a table. If you’ve never been to a Howl at the Moon, let me tell you – it’s a Howl of a good time! They have a stage, two grand pianos and sometimes a band. And they play all sorts of music that everyone knows and everyone sings along – loudly, so even if you can’t sing, it don’t matter because no one can hear you! It was just so much fun. We stayed until after 2 a.m.!! It was 3 am by the time we got home! There was a little guy (he was 23 – bless his heart!) that kept coming over to our table and talking basically to all of us, but it was sort of subtly obvious that he was “interested” in Mandie. So at one point they were taking donations at the piano to play different college fight songs. He or his table actually got that started with Rocky Top – apparently that is a Tennessee fight song? But so then Mandie and Missy pulled their money together and requested Sloopy. And for a long time, Sloopy held out but then someone finally came up with the money for the U of L fight song – which was totally lame, by the way, as far as fight songs go…lol…so later our little guy was over asking who went to Ohio State and Missy said, pointing at Mandie, her husband! aww….it wasn’t long after that that the little guy said his goodbyes to us…..
The next day I was reminded that I’m not nearly as young as I think I am because I was just dead all day Sunday! And I didn’t drink! I told Jimmie, if I feel this bad just from staying out so late, think how bad I’d felt if I’d drank too! Oh man…

But anyway, we did have so much fun. It was really a nice girls night out.

Last night, husband built a fire and we sat outside til the mosquitos started biting….it was such a nice evening…I slept really really well last night though!

Anyway….just thought I’d fill you all in on our weekend since Missy and I have been journaling about how excited we were!

Hope everyone had a great weekend too! The weather was beautiful yesterday here. I chilled out on the porch quite a lot yesterday….

Lot of love and prayers….

Oh I forgot to say one other dorky thing I did when getting the guestrooms ready. After mom and I went to see the Lion King, that year for Christmas she bought me three stuffed animals - Simba, Timone and Pumba (isn't that the warthogs name?). Anyway, so I put those stuffed animals on each of the guest beds! lol

ok...maybe I shouldn't tell all my nerdiness but for some reason I just felt compelled...

toodles.....

You crack me up! I don't think you're nerdy at all! In fact, it sounds like you're an excellent hostess! Can I come and stay at your bed and breakfast??? :)

Sounds like you all had a blast! Girls nights are the best!

What an awesome bed and breakfast you and Jimmie would run! When is that going to happen? I'd love to stay there! That sounds so relaxing and so wonderful....really, let me know and I'll be there!

I was laughing about your sense of directions...or lack of! The three of you together would make a great sitcom!

Lots of Love!
